Coming in January 2021 via Zoom.
Half support group and half swift kick, this online course is focused on the writer’s process of getting from idea to draft. This 10-session class will allow the writer to delve deep into their practice and come away with twenty or so pages that have been composed and revised based on instructor and peer feedback.
Among other craft topics, we will talk about plot, the distinction between story and plot; dialogue, pure fun with words by playing with diction and cliché; tension, identifying opportunities to amp up or reduce the tension of the story; and point of view, choosing the best vantage point for your story. This class will work with a new craft topic each session, utilize small group feedback, and a gentle workshop process.
All genres of creative writing and all levels of experience are welcome.
Each student will receive close readings with personalized notes from the instructor. Bring the seeds of your story, and we’ll watch them grow. There will be homework required between sessions, and the instructor will foster a supportive writing community. This is a Zoom class.
